The sixth race of the F1 season in Imola had to be canceled earlier this week due to conditions that became too dangerous.
The heavy rains that lashed Italy have caused massive floods, due to which a state of emergency has been declared in the region. By Thursday, at least 13 people had died in the floods.
AlphaTauri’s dutch machine Nyck de Vries shared photos from the crisis area on Instagram.
De Vries said that the floods also caused challenges for him, because he was stuck in a small village. He was on his way to a marketing event in the city of Faenza, located 15 kilometers from Imola.
– It’s raining heavily, Faenza is flooding and I can’t get to my hotel. Returning to the highway is not an option either, de Vries wrote.

De Vries said that he was lucky to get a place to stay in the only hotel in the village, when an employee of the McLaren garage decided to give him his room.
The next morning, another surprise awaited de Vries.
– The hotel lobby had turned into a place of refuge for those people who had to flee during the night.
The Dutchman finally said that he got out of the trap with the help of local people and authorities.
The last image of the publication was an announcement about a fundraiser for flood victims.
