Rules change in Formula 1 World Championship

The 2022 Formula 1 season, which will start in Bahrain on March 20, will run a total of 23 races in eight months, and the season will end on November 20 in Abu Dhabi. In the new season, Formula 1 has officially approved to hold a total of three sprint races in the 2022 season. The top eight will now receive points.

In the statement made by Formula 1, it was stated that with the decision taken unanimously at the meeting attended by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) executives and representatives of F1 teams, sprint races will take place in 3 races this season, as it was last season.

Sprint races this season;

Italy (Emilia Romagna Circuit)
Austrian Grand Prix
It will be held at the Brazilian Grand Prix and will be implemented with slightly different rules than last season.

POINTS WILL BE GIVEN TO THE FIRST 8 PILOTS
According to the news compiled by Ajansspor; In this season’s races, points will be awarded to the top 8 drivers. The pilot, who finishes in 8th place in the races where the winner will be rewarded with 8 points, will receive 1 point after the gradual decrease. The top 3 finishers of last season’s races were rewarded with 3, 2 and 1 points, respectively.

EARNED POINTS WILL BE EFFECTIVE IN DETERMINING THE RANKINGS
In the meeting, another rule change was made. In the Grand Prix, where the sprint race is held, the pilot who has the fastest time in the qualifying lap will start the race from the pole position. The points earned in the sprint race, on the other hand, will be effective in determining the other ranks other than the leader at the start of the race. Last season, the drivers who won the sprint race were entitled to start the race from the first place.

NEW “ACTION PLAN” FOR FORMULA 1 TO BE ANNOUNCED IN THE COMING DAYS
On the other hand, there were developments regarding the eventful Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which the champion was determined in the drivers’ classification last season. The FIA, which opened an investigation into the race in advance, announced that with the decision taken after the meeting, it will announce the “action plan” in the coming days, which will include new structural changes on the subject.
