Shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, a balcony on Imbrosweg in Berlin-Mariendorf was on fire.

Before the fire brigade arrived, numerous residents were said to have already escaped to the street. According to initial information, no one was injured.

The fire brigade was on site with 24 emergency services and was able to prevent the fire from spreading to other apartments.

Firefighters doused the flames and used a pressure fan to force toxic smoke out of the multi-story home.

It is still unclear whether the fire spread to the apartment. The home was badly damaged by the smoke.

The Berlin police are investigating. The Imbrosweg was closed for several hours due to the fire brigade operation.
