Superbike has been his reign for six consecutive years. In 2021 Jonathan Rea had to abdicate in favor of Toprak Razgatlioglu, but the Kawasaki rider is more determined than ever to take back the scepter. The recovery comes from an always intense and manic training, which combines tests on the track, cycling and gym. Through his own Instagram stories, the former world champion shared some information about his preparation. And he who knows if any followers will have tried to imitate him …
CYCLING
–
First of all the bike. When the weather does not allow for the usual excursions, Rea opts for training on the reels. Usually Jonathan works in short time intervals, equal to one or two minutes, during which he must release a power ranging from 150 to 400 watts. It starts with an intense warm-up of about ten minutes. Then five blocks of work on the reels, during which the Northern Irishman recreates high-altitude situations. In two cases it reaches 2,000 meters above sea level, while on three occasions it goes up to 2,500 meters. Here he focuses on high wattages or 25-watt increments every 15 seconds, often starting from an already high pace. In total this type of activity takes place for almost an hour. Rea repeats it three times on Monday. A good test for endurance under stress.
PHYSICAL HOLD
–
In addition, the six-time world champion engages in these repetitions to refine his aerobic capacity. Sometimes Jonathan goes in really exaggerated conditions: 30 minutes with the same pressure found at 4,000 meters above sea level with a range of 150-175 watts. Remarkable numbers.
GYM
–
In addition, Jonathan has another important place in his routine in the gym. He starts with a short warm-up session by lifting 60 or 70-pound weights. Then it’s the turn of the squat, made with weights from 75 to 92 kilos, in six sessions all in crescendo. Like his F1 colleagues, Rea dedicates a good part of his presentation to improving neck resistance by stimulating the flexor, extensor and lateral muscles. Then he exercises on the bench to strengthen mainly the lower limbs. Finally he pull-ups with the aim of also toning the deltoids, biceps and triceps. Sometimes he also adds weights to this exercise that go from 5 to 20 kilos to be lifted together with his body. A real superman workout.
