Last summer, Ermedin Demirovic moved from SC Freiburg to league rivals FC Augsburg. There, the 25-year-old was able to increase his market value again and also became the sole top scorer for the Fuggerstadt team with his goal in the 1-1 draw in Frankfurt on the last day of the game. Now Demirovic has drawn an interim conclusion after almost a year at FCA.
“I feel extremely comfortable, I feel at home here. It’s always easy to say that, but I really mean it. I receive great trust and respect from all sides. I think you can see that on the field,” the Bosnian international told Kicker. Demirovic made 26 Bundesliga appearances this season, in which he scored eight goals and provided six assists – with the goal at SGE he was able to move ahead of Mergim Berisha (13 scorers) in the club’s internal rankings and he is in the league comparison advanced to the top 15. He reached that level in the summer of 2021 when he was still active at Freiburg, before three devaluations in a row followed, meanwhile amounting to 6 million euros. “There were small things that made me realize that it might be better to say goodbye in winter, but that didn’t happen. I was allowed to play a couple of times from the start in the second half of the season, but it was clear to me that I wanted to leave in the summer,” said Demirovic about his end in Freiburg. The striker left SCF after two years on a free transfer, while Michael Gregoritsch went the opposite way.

“The talks with Enrico Maassen (coach; ed.) and how he saw my role in Augsburg were decisive for the move to FCA,” emphasized Demirovic. The coach recently only had words of praise for the attacker: “He has human qualities, is a worker, can score and prepare goals and play in several positions. Much more is not possible.” Demirovic is an “absolute leader on and off the pitch”.

The player himself took a similar stance: “I’ve been to many countries and know what it’s like as a newcomer. I can look at it from a different perspective and have been trying to help my colleagues as a leader on and off the field since the beginning. In the winter, for example, we got two Croatians in Dion Drena Beljo and David Colina, that’s my mother tongue. I’m a striker on the pitch and I know what’s expected of me. I want to lead with performance. Players can lean on me and pull up.”
Demirovic started a rather atypical career path after his training in the youth team of RB Leipzig and found his way into the game at the age of 22 through stints at Deportivo Alavés (Spain), FC Sochaux (France), UD Almería (Spain) and FC St. Gallen (Switzerland). the Bundesliga.
