Mikko Alatalo is Juho-Pekka Rantalan in an interview in the Actually heard series, fittingly I saw this on May Day. Alatalo was born on May 1, 1951, so congratulations are in order today.
On TV, the decades up to this day are carefully reviewed. The 1990s are also highlighted, which were very difficult for Alatalo. In 1992, his Berry-his wife committed suicide.
– My wife Marja was quite depressed. But I didn’t even know how depressed I was, Alatalo recalls in the program.
– Then the worst thing happened. He slept off by his own hand. It was a horrible experience. I was totally psychotic.
Alatalo tried to continue his life as best he could in Pispala with the couple’s two sons. The children continued school, but Alatalo stayed at the bottom of the bed for weeks. He got help from the Bible, parapsychology and Eastern philosophies. Also an old acquaintance, Seija Marttila, supported the man. The couple finally married in 1995 and had two sons.
– Seija is a strong woman from Ostrobothnia, who grabbed me by the neck and said that “now, get over it”. He understood that he had to cry, but then he had to move on. So Seija and I stayed together and we had two sons. They were the joys of my life, along with my older sons.

The joy was, and still is, counterbalanced by sadness over Marja’s fate.
– Yes, that sadness has carried me until these days, and I’m sure I’ll always remember it.
