Singer Sammy Babitzin died in 1973 in a violent car crash.
The 24-year-old artist was on his way to a gig on the Kukonhieka dance stage in Saarijärvi, when the driver lost control of the car near the Suojoki bridge in Hietama. In addition to Babitzin, two other young people died in the chase. Only the hitchhiker girl picked up along the way survived.
Keskisuomalainen-lehti told a week ago that Babitzin’s fans have put up a commemorative sign they made on the railing of the Suojoki bridge. It calls for an official memorial to be placed on the site. According to the fans, the smallest memorial could be, for example, a sign where the bridge would be named after the singer.
Son of Sammy Babitzin, Mikael, has said that he is delighted with the memorial idea. According to Keskisuomainen, he has also discussed the matter with Sammy Yuck-with my brother, and this would also seem like a green light for a memorial.
The latest story from Central Finland According to Sammy’s close relatives, however, they have also talked with Mikael Babitzin about the fact that other people who died in the same drive-by should be remembered.
– As my uncle Ykä has reminded many times, there were also other people involved, whose relatives remember their own relatives who died from this accident, says Mikael in an interview with Keskisuomainen.
He is of the opinion that all three who died in the accident would be worthy of a memorial.
At the moment, there is no known developer for the monument.
