Eva Jinek will be in action one more time this year before her maternity leave starts and her contract with RTL 4 ends. She returns for six weeks of TV. “All that switching really doesn’t help.”
There was a time when RTL 4 just broadcast one talk show all year round, but since Barend & Van Dorp and RTL Late Night that is a thing of the past. Today’s TV stars are already tired after a few weeks. Except for those of SBS 6: the men of VI make TV almost all year round and their scores prove that the viewer appreciates that fixed appointment.
Eve back again
Op1 is the furthest: so many presenters alternate there that you sometimes wonder who is the interviewer and who is the guest. But the recognisability of the late evening of RTL 4 is also under pressure. Eva Jinek was brought in to become the face of the late night, but she seems more like the face of Zwitserleven these days.
The presenter is on holiday so often that she has no less than three replacements ready: Beau van Erven Dorens, Humberto Tan and Renze Klamer. Beau ended his season on Friday after a very short period of six weeks and Eva will show up again in the studios of RTL 4 on Monday.
‘Way too short’
Tina Nijkamp, who has held sway at SBS 6 for years, finds those six-week mini-seasons inconvenient. “Eva’s ‘season’ also lasts only six weeks. All that changing of presenters all the time does not help the ratings,” the ratings shaman writes on her opinion channel.
She continues: “One of Humberto’s success factors was that he was there every night. I think it was a big mistake by the previous program management to stop RTL Late Night with Humberto.”
Humberto blunder
The current RTL 4 boss is Peter van der Vorst, but Humberto was taken off the screen by his predecessor Erland Galjaard, also known as DJ Errie and Wendy van Dijk’s husband.
Tina: “Much too hasty, it was a great success for years. They should have adjusted the line-up and found a ‘new’ Luuk Ikink (like Valerio now with Renze Klamer) and then nothing would have happened. But well, things done don’t take time.”
Eve bashing
Eva, who is due in September, can wet her chest. She has an incredible number of critics and they will closely follow her latest achievement for RTL 4 under her current TV contract. Will her talk show score well enough for an extension?
The Veronica guide is pessimistic. Eva put it on the cover this week with the title: ‘Viewing figure gun without ammunition. Five reasons why her future at RTL is uncertain.’
