Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria clearly missed a potentially attractive duel with world number one Iga Swiatek at the WTA tournament in Madrid.
The 35-year-old from Bad Saulgau lost on Friday in the second round in 66 minutes 6-1, 6-3 against Bernarda Pera from the USA, who is now fighting against Swiatek from Poland or Julia Grabher (Austria) for a place in the round of 16 .
Jule Niemeier (Dortmund) had already made it into the third round on Thursday by beating two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic). The 23-year-old now expects a duel with Elise Mertens (Belgium/No. 23) in the Spanish capital.
