Is Sigourney Weaver making an Alien comeback?

With her role as the tough Ripley in the “Alien” film series, Sigourney Weaver not only became world famous, she also defined the image of the resolute action heroine for all time. The longing for the character’s return to the big screen is understandably strong among audiences, but not Weaver’s.

In a new interview with “Total Film”, the 73-year-old was not convinced of the idea.

“There’s a lot of younger actors that[can]play that kind of role,” Weaver said. “There was also an Alien movie that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp, but we just couldn’t pull it off. You know, the train just left. I’m very happy with what I’m doing. I’ve spent enough time in space!”

That’s right, there was something: In the mid-1900s, Weaver was in talks to play the role of Ripley in a fifth “Alien” film, to be directed by Neil Blomkamp (District 9). Unfortunately, that project was shelved when original Alien director Ridley Scott decided to head back into space himself. He directed the Prometheus sequel and Alien prequel Alien: Covenant. However, the films were not very successful at the box office. Since February, however, a new part has been produced under the title “Alien: Romulus” by Fede Álvarez (“Evil Dead”) exclusively for Hulu (probably on Disney+ in Germany).

Sigourney Weaver last starred as Ripley in Alien: Resurrection 25 years ago.
