‘VI has won a lot of viewers’

It is exactly one year ago today that Johan Derksen told his candle anecdote at the table at Today Inside. “They’ve actually only gotten more popular since then.”

On the day before King’s Day last year, Johan Derksen had the laughter on his hand with his infamous candle anecdote. Especially studio guest Steven Brunswijk had to laugh very hard. A day later it seemed that Johan’s career was over, and a day later he announced that he would stop Today Inside.

Year after candle joke

How are things a year later? Good, says viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp. “Haven’t read anything about it anywhere, but today is a historic day. It is exactly one year ago today since the candle broadcast of Today Inside,” she writes on her Instagram channel.

She continues: “As is known, two more broadcasts followed on April 27 and 28, after which the program stopped for two weeks. Where is the program now compared to a year ago? And did the ‘candle riot’ damage the program or not at all?”

Only more popular

No, said Tina. “The answer is short and sweet: the program has only become more popular. Before the candle riot, VI was often the number two or three of the talk shows with around 700,000 viewers every day, now that number has risen to around 900,000 viewers. And is now the number 1 talk show in the Netherlands.”

The difference with the other talk shows has become bigger, she knows. “Beau, Jinek and Op1 have decreased by about 100 thousand viewers on average, VI has increased by about 200 thousand.”

Third place

Today Inside was another hit yesterday with 961 thousand viewers (24 percent market share) on SBS 6 and third place in the top 15 viewing figure. time and therefore also scored better than everything on NPO 1 and RTL 4. Wow, what a viewing hit.”

RTL Boulevard reporter Joost Maiburg writes: “Another top score for Today Inside with almost 1 million viewers. This puts the program at number three in the top 25. Extra clever with such a bad lead-in. Fortunately, the program on Tuesday has little competition.”
