The young Barcelonan, who works in the publishing sector, has presented her first novel, ‘Consum preferent’
It may sound strange. The young Andrea Genovart is a ‘veteran’ of Sant Jordi despite the fact that it was released today. The Barcelonan occupied this year a chair that she used to see closely, but that was not hers. A worker in the publishing sector, Genovart has lived the last Sant Jordi of hers in positions, attending and helping. Because Sant Jordi is also majestic for those who learn to use a dataphone or spend the day removing thorns from stems, and not only for media authors and their long lines.
But today Genovart changed roles. She made her debut as an author in Sant Jordi with the novel ‘Consum preferent’, a manuscript that he has been polishing in recent years and which has earned him this year’s Anagrama award. “I was very curious to see how she lived from the other side,” he explains after a marathon day. He has signed in eight different positions in Barcelona. First thing in the morning he was already rushing to the Taifa bookstore… And it was only his second stop of the day.

“It’s been a very cool Sant Jordi, a lot of people I know, people I don’t know… I have to say that it’s very intense, very exhausting, it’s a ‘heavy metal’ adrenaline shot. I’m sure it leaves a significant emotional hangover”, assumes this night after a month -at least- intense since it was published ‘Consum preferent’, a novel starring a young woman who lives with the precariousness and contradictions of Barcelona Mr. Wonderful. And written in Catalan, but with constant habitual interference from our here and now: Spanish, mainly, but also of another type.
Excited and tired, at the end of the day Genovart repeated an idea about Sant Jordi that she says she already had but that today she has accentuated: “I think it’s a great act of generosity on the part of the people”. “I am amazed at how generous people who do not know you at all can be. Not only for supporting your project and giving them the benefit of the doubt with all the hours that reading involves, but moving around, waiting… I find it amazing” , shares about the liturgy of author signatures. Genovart will return safely to Sant Jordi, who knows in which chair.
