The company claims that the battery could be used by the automotive industry within a year. Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) said it has developed a battery whose power could revolutionize the development of electric airplanes. The battery power is 500 watt hours per kilogram. The power capacity is almost twice as much as the majority of batteries currently used in electric transport. For example, lithium-ion batteries, which are also widely used in electric cars, have a power capacity of approximately 270 watt hours per kilogram.
