Young suspects of the death of youth care worker Emmen were on the hunt for money

The 16-year-old boy from Ruinerwold and a 19-year-old Emmenaar who are suspected of stabbing to death a 26-year-old aid worker from the youth institution Yorneo, were after money. Both had been sent out earlier that evening by a 20-year-old resident of Emmen to raid a gas station. But it was closed. Both were not allowed to come home from the twenties without a loot.

This became clear on Thursday during an introductory session in Assen. The judge decided that the case is too serious to send the three home and extended the pretrial detention for three months. The 16-year-old’s case was closed. The two eldest stood before the judge in public. Only the 19-year-old appeared. He still has to go to the Pieter Baan Center for research. The eldest is examined by a psychologist and psychiatrist.
