Man (19) arrested after yet another stabbing at asylum seekers’ center in Budel

Another stabbing took place in the asylum seekers’ center in Budel on Sunday evening around 8.30 pm. This is reported by the police. The stabbing happened after a fight broke out between several residents. A 24-year-old man was stabbed in the leg. A 19-year-old man has been arrested.

The victim was taken to hospital under police escort, a 112 correspondent reported. The suspect is transferred to the station for questioning. A number of witnesses are also heard.

Security Risk Area
An emergency ordinance has been in force in and around the asylum seekers’ center since the end of January and the area around it is also a safety risk area. People are no longer allowed to carry objects with which they can injure someone.

Mayor Ronald van Kessel felt compelled to take the measures due to the series of stabbings and disturbances of recent times. “It’s a tough measure, but it didn’t go on like this any longer.”

“It is mainly the accumulation of serious criminal offenses. I felt the urgency: it can no longer be done like this. It is about protecting residents and employees,” Van Kessel previously told Omroep Brabant.

Seventh stabbing
So far, this measure seems to have had little success. Sunday’s stabbing was already the seventh in a few months. Moreover, the municipality cannot simply get rid of the asylum seekers’ center: the permit runs until 1 July 2024.

Those responsible for all the misery in Budel are said to be a group of young so-called safelanders. These are people who in principle can safely return to their country of origin.
