The Berlin police have been registering mass incoming emails at their Internet watchdog for two days.
“Currently, despite the high load, it can still be reached without any loss of quality,” the police said on Twitter on Wednesday. The cybercrime department at the State Criminal Police Office has started investigating computer sabotage.
According to the police situation center, the greatly increased frequency of reports to the Internet watchdog is leading to significant delays in processing. There is a backlog of about two to three hours.
“We’ll get through it. But if the frequency increases, then we would have to temporarily stop operating the Internet watch.”
Via the police portal, it is possible, for example, to file a complaint, to register a meeting or to provide information about criminal offences. It is not intended for current emergency calls.
Just last week, Berlin was hit by cyber attacks affecting the websites of public authorities. Among other things, notifications from the Berlin police could not be published on the Internet at times. The police side was also disturbed in Brandenburg. Other states were also affected.
