According to media reports, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, who was loaned out by FC Bayern to AS Monaco, is leaving the club from the principality in the summer. The 26-year-old would then return to the record champions in Munich, at least for the time being. Nübel moved to Monaco on loan in 2021 and has been the goalkeeper there ever since.
Neuer and Sommer: Great competition in Munich
In winter, after Manuel Neuer’s injury and before the Swiss Yann Sommer was signed, there was speculation about Nübel’s early return to Bayern. According to the former U21 national goalkeeper, the Monegasques did not want to let Nübel go. The loan deal with the current fourth in the French Ligue 1 table ends in the summer.
It is questionable whether Nübel will get more playing time between the posts after his return to Munich. With Manuel Neuer and Yann Sommer, Thomas Tuchel has two national goalkeepers at his disposal. Sommer’s contract runs until 2025, Neuer is tied to Munich until 2024.
Tapalovic’s dismissal as a possible argument for Nübel’s whereabouts
It is unclear whether Nübel is still trying to assert himself in Munich. The dismissal of long-time goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic at FC Bayern could play a decisive role. Nübel had criticized Tapalovic at the beginning of the year: “During my time in Monaco there wasn’t much contact,” said the former Schalke keeper in January in the ZDF sports studio: “I think you could have exchanged ideas from time to time, about the situation, how it’s going. But that wasn’t the case.”
Tapalovic and Bayern split shortly after the interview in January after internal differences. The 42-year-old was considered a close confidant of Neuer. The German-Croatian was followed by Schalke 04 to Munich in 2011.
