Several people have been killed in a shooting in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. This is reported by the local police on Twitter. Five people – including the gunman – were killed, nine others were injured. During a press conference, the local police chief stated that two officers were also injured.

Local police chief Paul Humphrey said four people were killed in the shooting. The shooter himself was killed by police. “Six people have been taken to hospital and are being treated there, including an officer,” it said.

The shooting took place near the Slugger Field baseball stadium in Louisville. The perpetrator began shooting around 8:30 a.m. local time (2:30 p.m. Belgian time) at a historic 1837 building in downtown, the Old Bank of Louisville.

Not much is known about the identity or motives of the perpetrator. According to the police, there was “a connection” between the bank and the shooter. He may have been a former employee. A witness said the perpetrator used an assault rifle. News channel CNN reported that some of those present had taken shelter in the safe.
