Ajax has taken second place in the Eredivisie again without any effort. Against Fortuna Sittard it was actually ready within half an hour. Steven Berghuis was accurate twice and Steven Bergwijn and Kenneth Taylor decided the game: 4-0.

The people of Amsterdam had to do without Mohammed Kudus. The wing attacker injured his hamstring in the heated Classic against Feyenoord. Steven Berghuis took his position as right winger and a spot in midfield was reserved for Florian Grillitsch. Berghuis felt like a fish in water, because after six minutes he already gave Ajax the lead. He dribbled in and shot the ball from outside the box and hit the inside of the post: 1-0.

Mountain House

In a tame Johan Cruijff Arena, football was then sloppy from both sides. It therefore produced few great opportunities, but ten minutes before the break it was again Berghuis who was accurate. He got the ball at his feet and shot the ball out of the turn into the roof of the goal: 2-0.

Fortuna came out better after the break. Ajax had more trouble with the cover and the grouped Limburg defense. Still it came to 3-0 via Steven Bergwijn. After a short corner, the ball ended up with the winger on the edge of the box and he pelted the ball against the ropes. Fortuna had nothing to lose and started playing offensively. That led to a header on the crossbar by Dimitris Siovas.

Time for talents

At Ajax, Silvano Vos made his official debut in the first team. He replaced Grillitsch in midfield halfway through the second half. Furthermore, Owen Wijndal seems to have ended up in a hopeless situation. The left-back again remained on the bench for the entire game and looks set to be number four in the pecking order. There was also room to bring in Mika Godts just before time. The Belgian, who was part of the selection for the first time, also made his official debut. Just before that, Kenneth Taylor closed the game: 4-0.

After the victory over Fortuna Sittard, Ajax takes second place in the Eredivisie from PSV. Both now have 59 points, but the goal difference of the team from Amsterdam is better. Leader Feyenoord comes into action against RKC Waalwijk at 8 p.m. Next Sunday, Ajax will receive a visit from FC Emmen at home.
