The Dutch Ria van Triet (76) was stunned when she opened a letter from the Dutch tax authorities a few years ago. The letter stated that her daughter Ilona Liu (58) had died and had even been cremated. Her whole house had already been emptied. Ria now has no tangible memory of her daughter. “How can you do something like that to a mother?” she wonders.
