Corona: decrease in number of corona patients in hospitals continues

Just like Friday, the other parameters, except for the deaths, are also going in the right direction: the number of new infections with the corona virus has fallen by 46 percent, to an average of 20,763 infections per day in the period from 2 to 8 February.

From February 2 to 8, there were an average of 44 deaths daily, an increase of 30 percent. The number of new hospital admissions also continues to fall. The last seven days have averaged 294.7 admissions, or a decrease of 17 percent. The number of tests also continues to fall: 67,900, a third less than in the previous week. Of this, 35.8 percent were still positive, which is 8.1 percent lower than a week earlier.

West Flemish situation

The highest number of new infections in our province over the past 14 days has been established in the larger municipalities such as Bruges, Kortrijk, Ostend, Roeselare and Waregem. If we take into account the number of inhabitants, the incidence (the number of cases per 100,000) is greatest in Wielsbeke, Houthulst, Poperinge, Vleteren, and Wervik.

There is a further decrease in hospital occupancy. On February 11, there were 427 patients with corona in West Flemish hospitals. Of those 427 patients, 29 are in intensive care. Seven of them are on a ventilator.
