Critics have been predicting their imminent demise for a long time, but nothing has come of it: the Meilandjes are still as popular as ever. They managed to captivate 1.012 million viewers (19 percent market share) on SBS 6 yesterday, beating Help Mijn Man Is Klusser on RTL 4 by large numbers, good for 753 thousand viewers (15 percent).

SBS 6 on the rise

Tina Nijkamp, viewing figure connoisseur and the former channel boss of SBS 6, has noticed that things have not been going so badly with John de Mol’s family channel lately. “It is increasingly noticeable that SBS 6 is currently scoring really well on prime time,” she says on her ratings juice channel Life of Tina.

She continues: “Steenrijk Straatarm is doing well and Het Roer Om also experienced record figures on Thursday. Miljoenenjacht and Wie Ben Ik also score top. Only Friday (Avastars) and Saturday (Marble Mania) score (far) below average. So, in addition to VI (985 thousand), things are also getting better with the other programming.”

RTL 4 is disappointing

The major competitor RTL 4 has been disappointing lately, says Tina. “RTL 4 has seen better times in prime time, especially in the total figures. Fortunately, Buying Without Watching will start again on Monday (April 17), because Help Mijn Man Is Klusser continues to disappoint in the totals.”

She continues: “But apart from Friday and Saturday, the entire week of prime time currently scores under a million, around 600/700/800 thousand viewers. Very exciting, therefore, also what, for example, The Interior Project VIPS will score from next Tuesday. Exciting weeks for RTL 4 in the near future.”

Strong eve

RTL 4 nevertheless continues to score high market shares. How is that possible? “Fortunately, their eve is so MEGA that market shares are never under pressure.”

NPO 1 was yesterday’s prime time winner with 1.2 million viewers (23 percent) for Het Hoge Noorden and almost 1.2 million viewers (24 percent) for Tussen Kunst en Kitsch.
