At the start Wehrlein held the first position, followed by Mortara, as per qualifying, then Lotterer, Vergne and Da Costa. Two Porsches and two DSs to drive all, with only Mortara’s Venturi in between. And the Italian-Swiss was the first to open the overtaking rumba, when at 36 ‘from the end – with attack mode for both – he slipped Wehrlein with a very aggressive maneuver, took the lead and stretched on his pursuers. . Shortly afterwards the long Porsche-DS duel began, with Vergne putting in Lotterer first and then Wehrlein and Da Costa touching the German damaging his DS and losing several positions before the final comeback.

An unfortunate E-prix for the third Ferrari F1 driver. Having started nineteenth, the Italian climbed up to sixteenth position before puncturing, returning to the pits and exiting 21st. Giovinazzi then had another technical problem that gave the final blow to his Dragon-Penske, forced to retire: but the Apulian was still very far from the first of the race, managed by Mortara in front of Vergne who was trying to gnaw cents Italian-Swiss without however being able to find the necessary starting point. And the excessive energy consumption forced Vergne to give up, giving positions to the two Porsches of Wehrlein and Lotterer. At that point, when there were 13 minutes to go, the duel for the victory began.

The couple of the Stuttgart team broke the delay and passed the Venturi of the leader, in the energy management phase, so much so that they were also surpassed by the Envision of Frijns, which among the big names was the only one to keep an attack mode for the finale. The last 5 ‘were crazy, with the thrust that was scarce for everyone and the race that made a race to save not to remain on foot. The Porsches benefited from this, as they wisely managed the energy in the middle of the race by exploiting it for the final draw. A final thrill for the leading couple because, having crossed the finish line a few seconds before the end of the time, they had to complete two laps instead of one before the checkered flag, covering the last meters with great caution. But the Porsche one-two finally arrived. Said of the top five, defending champion De Vries finished sixth in a Mercedes, ahead of Frijns who risked being left on foot; then Di Grassi, Buemi and Gunther to close the top 10.
