New Vlas Bridge over Leie officially opened

The cyclist’s bridge is a new tourist-recreational link on the cycling network. It not only connects the towpaths on both sides of the Leie, but also nature reserves such as the Zavelputten, Ooigembos and the Oude Leiearm.

The Vlas Bridge makes both municipalities dream about an extensive nature reserve, whether provincial or not. Waregem has plans to expand this nature and park area.

The construction of the bridge is part of the Seine-Scheldt project to prepare the shipping route for larger container and cargo ships. This should reduce freight traffic along the road.
