Status: 03/30/2023 10:21 p.m

The German basketball champion Alba Berlin suffered the second defeat in two days in the EuroLeague.

Alba Berlin suffered an expected 72:56 (35:34) away defeat against the Spanish top team FC Barcelona in the basketball Euroleague. In third place in the Euroleague, however, Alba sold expensively and was on a par with the favorites for a long time, especially the quota from the three-point line was outstanding in the first half. But as the game went on, the Berliners ran out of strength and Alba deservedly lost.

Alba with a strong first half

When they met their center Oscar da Silva from last year, the albatrosses were wide awake at the beginning. Although Barcelona played well on the offensive and quickly led 10:5, Alba didn’t let himself be shaken off, also because the Berliners acted well in the rebound. With the hosts, the offensive worked less and less the longer it lasted, and so Alba closed the gap to 14:15 with a few successful three-pointers. A short time later, Alba even went into the second quarter with a 21:19 lead.

After the restart, Alba played well again, continued to hit his threes and extended his lead to 27:21. This lead lasted until the middle of the second quarter. But the playful class of Barcelona around its superstar Nicola Mirotic then increasingly prevailed. Shortly before the end of the quarter, Barca led by a point, but a throw by Malte Delow with the final siren ensured Alba Berlin’s happy 35:34 half-time lead.

Berlin loses the thread in the third quarter

Led by a strong Luke Sikma, Alba initially held the narrow lead. A respectable and exciting game developed as the game progressed. Kuric put Barcelona back in front after a long time in the third quarter. Suddenly the Berliners lost the thread, didn’t hit their throws anymore and produced too many easy turnovers. Before the final quarter, Barcelona then clearly led for the first time with 50:42.

In the last quarter, Barcelona showed all their routine and physical superiority under the basket and quickly increased the lead to 14 points. Alba had nothing more to oppose in this phase and, after the narrow defeat in Baskonia, had to accept the next bankruptcy against a Spanish team in the Euroleague. In the end it was a little too clear 72:56.

The next task for the Albatrosses is in the Basketball Bundesliga. On Sunday (3 p.m.) the team coached by Israel Gonzalez will play at the Skyliners Frankfurt.
