Just sweeping the stable, making the beds for the cows and refilling the kibble. This day starts for farmer Martin Jansen from Stuifzand just like any other day. But today the phone rings continuously. Success wishes come in one after another. This afternoon Jansen will be installed as a new Member of Parliament for the BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB).
At the end of the morning, the overalls are taken off and the neat clothes put on. After a cup of coffee at his mother’s kitchen table, Jansen and his girlfriend get into the car to Assen.
It takes a while to find his place in the Statenzaal. But around a quarter to two the time has come. After he has pronounced the sentence ‘I declare and promise’, Jansen is officially a Member of Parliament.
In addition to the congratulations, this also earns him two bunches of flowers. One for his girlfriend and one for his mother.
