The firefight took place in the town of Gudermes in the Russian republic of Chechnya, east of the capital Grozny. According to several Telegram channels, an attack had just been carried out on a police station, something Kadyrov denies. According to him, these were two localized criminals.
According to Kadyrov, the two were eliminated “within minutes”. They would have been given the opportunity to surrender, but did not. When they found themselves surrounded, they threw a grenade at the security forces, to no avail. Then they were both shot dead.
No one else was injured, according to official statements.
Images that Kadyrov shared show how he steps to the scene of the facts. His 15-year-old son Adam is also there. The latter carries a firearm and a bulletproof vest, and pretends to be tough, but the images show that he is pale and clearly looks around nervously. Even when the police drag the mutilated bodies of the two ‘criminals’, while Kadyrov looks on with a smile and addresses his men.
Kadyrov (46) is one of Russian President Putin’s closest allies. His troops are fighting in Ukraine on the Russian side. He is also called “Putin’s bloodhound”.
