Romania are without a win in four games and have only won one of their last five games against Hungary. Last year, the Romania U21 national team played just three games and went without a win. Previously, the Eastern Europeans took part in the EM in 2021 and, after two draws against the Netherlands (1-1) and Germany (0-0) and a 2-1 win against Hungary, narrowly finished third with five points in the preliminary round out of. Only because of the worse goal difference (+1) compared to Germany (+3), Romania finished the tournament in third place. Most recently, there was a 0-2 defeat against Portugal.
