The German ice hockey team has won its first victory at the Olympics. However, the DEB team found it unexpectedly difficult against hosts and outsiders China.

After the Olympic false start, the German national ice hockey team recorded their first win in the second game. Two days after the sobering 1: 5 against Canada, the team of national coach Toni Söderholm won against hosts China 3: 2 (2: 0, 1: 1, 0: 1).

Straubinger Marcel Brandt (14th), Mannheimer Korbinian Holzer (17th) and Swiss legionnaire Dominik Kahun (25th) scored the goals for the selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) in the National Hallenstadion. Canadian-born Parker Foo (40′) and Tyler Wong (49′) scored for the blatant outsider, who lost his Olympic debut against the USA 8-0.

At the end of the preliminary round at the Winter Games in Beijing, the German team will meet the USA on Sunday (2:10 p.m. CET/ARD and Eurosport), who are leading Group A after beating Canada 4-2.
