TSG Hoffenheim: Baumgartner’s exit clause lower in the event of relegation

Desired Hoffenheim professional

Christoph Baumgartner is one of the few bright spots at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim this season. Although the 23-year-old has not been involved in a goal since taking over from coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, he is still the top scorer for the Kraichgau team with five goals and four assists over the season. It is therefore not surprising that a departure to a larger club will be an issue in the summer. In the event of relegation, however, this would flush significantly less money into the coffers.

A report by “foosball” According to Baumgartner, his contract has an exit clause that makes a change at the end of the season possible in any case. Without citing its own information, the newspaper names 30 million euros as the sum that would be needed to free the Austrian from Hoffenheim. In the event of relegation, however, this would “reduce enormously, by almost half”.

Hoffenheim is currently in 18th place with 19 points, and the direct duel in the relegation battle against Hertha BSC is scheduled for the weekend. Baumgartner is back after the yellow card suspension and can ensure that the chances of a higher transfer fee in the summer increase again. With a win, TSG would overtake the capital club, which is currently 15th.

It is unclear whether Baumgartner Hoffenheim, who brought the offensive player from the youth team of AKA St. Pölten in the summer of 2017, would leave at the end of the season even if they stayed up. At EUR 20 million, its market value is below the then applicable clause. But there doesn’t seem to be a lack of interest. According to “Kicker”, clubs from Germany and abroad are lining up, including top clubs from the English Premier League.
