With two hits, Daniël Beukers was one of the stars at AZ on Wednesday afternoon. The Alkmaar talents defeated the Spanish top club Real Madrid 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Youth League. “This is unbelievable, I can’t comprehend it.”
“I used to watch the Youth League as a little boy,” says the very enthusiastic Daniël Beukers after the spectacular win over Real Madrid. “That I can play here and soon the semi-final is very special.”
Team spirit
The trainer of this AZ success is Jan Sierksma. The 38-year-old coach was not surprised afterwards by the win over the Spaniards, but he was surprised by the 4-0 result. Sierksma particularly praised the team spirit. “You saw it with the fourth goal, when the substitutes ran into the field.”

“Grab Opportunity”
Nineteen-year-old Beukers played four times for Young AZ this season. This means that he can gain more and more experience in professional football. The former youth player of IJsselmeervogels eventually dreams of the Alkmaar main force. “If the opportunity comes, I want to grab it.”

With Beukers, AZ will play the semi-finals of the Youth League on April 21 in Nyon, Switzerland. The opponent there is Sporting Portugal. The Portuguese club defeated Liverpool 1-0 yesterday.
