Greece finds new national coach

Gustavo Poyet takes over the vacant coaching position with the Greek national soccer team.

As the Greek association announced on Friday, the Uruguayan has signed a contract until 2023. Poyet (54) succeeds Dutchman John van’t Schip, who resigned at the end of November.

“I’m coming to a beautiful country with a great history and great people,” said Poyet, whose contract includes an extension clause until EURO 2024. This will take effect if Greece qualifies for the finals in Germany in two years’ time.

Poyet has previously only coached club teams, including in England, Spain and Greece.
