Ski jumper Karl Geiger shone on the fifth day of the Norwegian Raw Air Tour with another race to catch up.
The third in the World Championships improved in the second round in Lillehammer with a jump of 133.5 m from tenth to fifth place. The day’s victory went to local hero Halvor Egner Granerud, who is also in the lead in the overall standings of the Norwegian “Three Hills Tournament” at halftime.
Geiger had already impressed on Saturday in Oslo by jumping from 13th to third place. As the second best DSV eagle, Constantin Schmid (Oberaudorf) followed on Tuesday in eleventh place.
Markus Eisenbichler, on the other hand, missed a top placing: the six-time world champion, who was still fourth at half-time, fell back to 14th place.
Four Hills Tournament winner Granerud, who is also in the lead in the overall World Cup, was unstoppable. At Raw Air he went head-to-head with Austria’s Stefan Kraft, who finished second in Lillehammer. After nine of 18 jumps, Granerud is 5.0 points ahead of Kraft in the fight for the prize money of 50,000 euros.
Ski jumping: setback for Andreas Wellinger
Justin Lisso (Schmiedefeld) and Philipp Raimund (Oberstdorf) also collected World Cup points in 20th and 25th place, unlike Stephan Leyhe (Willingen/34th).
Andreas Wellinger surprisingly failed in the qualification on Monday and missed the entry into a World Cup for the first time since December 2021. Up until then, Planica’s second in the World Championships had been well in the race as seventh in the overall standings.
It continues on Wednesday (7.15 p.m.) at the same place with the qualification for the competition on Thursday. From Friday the finale of the Raw Air Tour will take place at “Monsterbakken” in Vikersund.
