BVB: Chelsea arranged meetings with Gregor Kobel’s advisors

Man United are also interested

With a market value of 25 million euros, Gregor Kobel is by far the most valuable keeper in the Bundesliga. The 25-year-old Swiss has increased it continuously since moving from VfB Stuttgart to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 and has also attracted international attention with his performances at BVB. Loud “Sport1” two clubs from the Premier League, Chelsea FC and Manchester United, have expressed serious interest and initial contact has already been made.

Accordingly, Kobel’s consulting agency, SBE Management AG, met with those responsible for the Blues on the sidelines of the second leg in the Champions League round of 16 at Chelsea in London. It is said to have been more an exchange of interests than concrete negotiations about a change. Kobel is happy in Dortmund and is not aiming for a departure after this season, they say.

Chelsea are on the hunt for a new keeper after a spending spree this season that saw more than €600m in summer and winter combined for new signings. With Gabriel Slonina (18) came a promise for the future from Major League Soccer, but it still needs time. According to reports, the current team of Kepa Arrizabalaga (28) and Edouard Mendy (31) does not have the greatest trust from those responsible.

Chelsea trusts BVB keeper Gregor Kobel to have a long-term regular place

Kobel is intended for this role, but given the contract in Dortmund that is valid until 2026 and does not contain an exit clause, it would be anything but cheap. The fact that the Champions League winner of 2021 does not shy away from large sums for goalkeepers was shown in the summer of 2018 when the current transfer record of 80 million euros was set for Kepa. A goalkeeper has never left the Bundesliga for more than 25 million euros (Bernd Leno 2018 to FC Arsenal), Manuel Neuer switched from Schalke 04 to FC Bayern in 2011 for 30 million euros.
