Boerenbond about nitrogen agreement: “Remain concerned”
“It seems that with the equalization of permit thresholds between agriculture and industry and external netting (the transfer of nitrogen margin when a company stops, ed.) two crucial adjustments have taken place that can offer Flemish farmers prospects for the future,” says the Boerenbond. “It is important that this is also fully translated into the decree and that there is a clearly delineated framework for the appropriate assessment that should make this possible. This can give oxygen to livestock farms from 1 January 2025.”
Still concerned
The interest group does not sound completely relieved: “In the coming period we will thoroughly go through the nitrogen agreement with our board members and the farmers themselves. Even if the agreement is translated into a decree, we will closely monitor it and we also want to be involved in its implementation. Farmer’s Union says.
The organization therefore asks that it be allowed to share its vision during hearings in the Flemish Parliament. In any case, they want to remain actively involved in the search for solutions to the challenges in the sector, write Boerenbond in a press release.
