DJ Martin Garrix is the link between U2 and Dutch drummer Bram van den Berg. U2 guitarist The Edge tells that in an interview with music magazine Rollingstone. “He’s a real powerhouse.”
Last month it was announced that Bram van den Berg (40) is temporarily exchanging his regular band Krezip for the world famous band U2. Coming autumn, the Dutchman will replace drummer Larry Mullen jr during a series of concerts in Las Vegas, who is undergoing surgery and has to recover from it. ,,We met Bram through our friend Martin Garrix”, says guitarist The Edge (61). Rollingstone. ,,We were captivated by his drumming style, but also by who he is. He is a real powerhouse, but also someone with whom we get on very well.”

DJ Martin Garrix (Martijn Garritsen, 26) has been familiar with U2 for several years. In 2021 they released the single together We are the people from, the theme song of the European Football Championship. It now appears that he is the link between U2 and Van den Berg, whose character, according to The Edge, is almost as important as his abilities behind the drums. “He is a nice person to be around, which is of course crucial as U2 thrives on deep friendships. We have now worked together more often to see how things click. I think it will be a success.”
“Of course we will miss Larry. We worked together for forty years without anyone having to call in sick. It is actually very special that this is only the first time that something like this has happened.” Van den Berg’s place at Krezip will be taken by another Bram, Bram Hakkens, in the near future.
