Nitrogen agreement: “CD&V has already said no to the proposal”

The Jambon government failed to reach an agreement on the nitrogen dossier on Sunday. According to Prime Minister Jan Jambon, we are waiting for CD&V’s answer to an “ultimate proposal” with additional concessions to the Flemish Christian Democrats.

But according to CD&V, that answer is already clear: “not”. The Flemish Christian Democrats bounce back and believe that Jambon should continue to look for a better agreement. “We note that there is no consensus in the government and that we seem to be expected to leave the government if we don’t agree immediately,” said a government source. “That is absolutely not our intention. But we could not approve what was on the table,” it still sounded.

Another CD&V source also confirms that CD&V has no intention of leaving the government itself. “People may be trying to get us out of the way. But we keep pushing for a better agreement. If people don’t want to find an agreement with us, they just have to look for a changing majority with (opposition parties, ed.) Groen and Vooruit”.
