Eriksson: “I have health problems”. He withdraws from football

The Swedish coach, Italian champion with Lazio in 2000 and former England coach, will limit himself to carrying out small tasks for Karlstad, but without being 100% involved

Sven Goran Eriksson steps away from the world of football. At least for a while. Through an official release distributed to the press, the 75-year-old Swedish coach revealed that he had “health problems”. He currently holds the role of sports director of Karlstad Football, a Swedish third division club, but due to the latest problems he will limit his activity: “I have decided. Due to health problems I have to limit my public duties, at least for the moment I am having follow-up exams. I will focus on my health, my family and Karlstad, but with limited assignments. Thank you, friends and insiders, for all your support. Please respect my decision and my privacy”.

Eriksson’s name is linked above all to Lazio. In 2000 he won the scudetto with an incredible comeback against Juve, celebrating the title at the Olimpico with the defeat of the black and whites in the flood of Perugia. The Swede also won 4 Italian Cups – a record shared with Allegri and Mancini. Two with Lazio, one with Sampdoria and Roma. He also coached Fiorentina. In his career he won two Cups and a Swedish championship with Gothenburg, three Portuguese titles, a Cup and a Super Cup with Benfica and an Italian Super Cup with Lazio. In Europe, however, he boasts the UEFA Cup with Gothenburg and two international trophies with the biancocelesti, the 1999 European Super Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup of the same year, in the final against Mallorca. From 2001 to 2006 he also led the England national team.
