The German national soccer team is scheduled to play Ukraine in the summer. Corresponding plans were confirmed by the sports show from circles of the DFB.
In this respect, the information partially coincides with that of the editorial network Germany, which reported on Friday (February 24, 2023) that the German Football Association (DFB) wanted to play its 1000th international match in history in Gelsenkirchen against Ukraine.
As the sports show found out, the plans of the DFB are to host the 1000th international match in Bremen’s Weser Stadium – and not against Ukraine. The DFB-Elf has not played in Bremen since 2012, mainly because of a dispute over the costs of police operations related to high-risk games in the Bundesliga.
The already politically charged game against Ukraine, which Russia had attacked in violation of international law, would not be additionally charged by the anniversary game, but would be played at a different location after the game in Bremen. Gelsenkirchen should be in the conversation. However, neither the contracts with the organizers nor with the opposing associations have been signed.
Three games planned in June
According to the preliminary plans of the DFB, the team of national coach Hansi Flick should play three international matches in June. As the sports show found out, she will compete away from home once.
The 1000th international match would then have to be the first in June, because the DFB has played 997 games so far. With the two games in March (25th in Mainz against Peru and 28th in Cologne against Belgium) he then comes to 999.
Trip to the USA
According to the report by the editorial network Germany, the national team will travel to the USA in October and play two friendlies there. This information also corresponds to that of the sports show. The USA is hosting the 2026 World Cup along with Canada and Mexico.
