SpVgg Unterhaching: Sandro Wagner leaves the future as a coach open

Goal Bundesliga

Sandro Wagner has not yet made a decision about his future as coach of SpVgg Unterhaching. “I want to think about it in peace. I want to look at the development of the team and my own. It has to be right for both sides. It has to be that I can give them what they need and I also have to be able to develop further,” said the 35-year-old in an interview with dpa. His contract expires at the end of the season.

Wagner joined the club in the summer of 2021, where he was initially slated for the Under-19s but was promoted to first-team head coach after just a few weeks. With the club at the gates of Munich, Wagner is currently leading the table in the Regionalliga Bayern, the lead over pursuers Würzburger Kickers is three points. On Friday (7 p.m.) the Hachinger start the rest of the season at FC Bayern II. In the case of the championship, the club would have to play promotion games against the first-placed team in the Northeast Regional League. In 2021, SpVgg was relegated from the 3rd division.

Wagner has coached the team in 64 games to date and scored an average of 1.94 points per game – the best value in the club’s recent history. Wagner, who also works as an expert for the “DAZN” streaming service, has the goal of the Bundesliga himself. “I’m convinced that I can get to the top,” emphasized the former striker, who, among other things, went on the hunt for goals for FC Bayern. Only a few months after taking office, he made his ambitions clear that he wanted to become an “absolute top trainer”, he said on “Sport1”: “I want to get the most out of this job. I work very hard every day, I have to gain a lot of experience and also need a few more years to get my coaching license.” Now he added: “I have a clear plan on how I want to get to the top: through many individual steps and humble learning. “
