Committee I recommends research into control of foreign interference in Belgian politics | News

Committee I, which supervises the intelligence services in our country, made this recommendation in response to an American report. According to that report, Russia has been financing political parties in other countries since 2014.

Russia would also try to play on public opinion by spreading disinformation. People and parties who are critical of NATO and migration in particular are targeted as Russia. They are seen as ideological allies of the Russian regime.

According to the report, there are no indications that Belgium was specifically targeted. There are also no indications that Russia would have played a role in the 2019 election results.
