The estate of US fashion expert André Leon Talley, who died in early 2022 at the age of 73, brought in around 1.4 million dollars (around 1.3 million euros) at an auction in New York. Among the dozens of items up for auction were suitcases, bags, clothing and works of art, auction house Christie’s announced on Thursday.
Among the most expensive items was a set of three Louis Vuitton suitcases, marked with Talley’s initials “ALT”, which fetched $94,500 at auction. A picture of himself and Talley by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, brought in $ 32,760. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to two churches in New York and North Carolina to which Talley belonged.
Around two meters tall, Talley, who always caused a stir with his flashy accessories and colorful kaftans, was considered an influential style icon. He was one of the most important fashion experts in the USA and had worked for various magazines for decades. (dpa)
