Anthony Martial joined Sevilla FC on loan from Manchester United in the winter. The 26-year-old striker could have opted for a transfer to Juventus Turin or FC Barcelona. The Frenchman revealed this in an interview with the Spanish newspaper “Diario de Seville”.
“Other big clubs tried to convince me, but I preferred to come to Sevilla because I knew that Sevilla is a very good club, a family club. It was the right decision for me,” said Martial, who recently played no role in United coach Ralf Rangnick’s plans. At the end of last year, the national player had already expressed his desire to change to the club.

“Juventus tried to sign me. I spoke to my agent and told him I’d rather go to Seville. It was the best solution for me and my family,” said the offensive man. He also rejected the Catalans. “Yes, FC Barcelona spoke to my agent. But like I said, I spoke to my agent and told him: ‘My priority is Sevilla’. And when I say something to someone, I don’t change it, I keep my word.”
Martial’s commitment to the LaLiga club is now limited to the summer – his contract with the “Red Devils” runs until 2024. According to “The Athletic”, Sevilla FC initially only wanted to take over half of Martial’s salary at Manchester – weekly the professional collects 240,000 pounds (equivalent to around 286,000 euros) in England. United would have declined, but after a second round of negotiations, agreement was reached that no loan fee should be paid, while Martial’s salary would be paid in full instead.

The loanee said: “Both Sevilla and I tried to make it possible for me to come. I have less salary, but I also know that paying my salary is an effort for the club. So we both tried our best. But I know that these efforts will be mutually beneficial.” Martial was unable to say whether he will stay with the Blanquirrojos beyond the summer: “At the moment we are only here for four months.”
