Liguria: A trip back in time in northern Italy

Italian immigration to Argentina is an issue that has profoundly marked the history of our country. Since 1830 thousands of Italians arrived in these lands, seeking better living conditions and leaving behind the political instability of their place of origin.

Those who came to Buenos Aires from Liguria settled, for the most part, in the La Boca neighborhood. The Genoese settled there, in tenements that they later painted with the colors of the paint cans left over from the ships, hence their colorful houses, which characterize the neighborhood to this day.

Soccer fans, the Genoese were the founders of the Boca Juniors Club, hence the fans are known as “xeneizes” which means Genoese in their dialect. There are not a few children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of immigrants who laid foundations and grew up in this country. That is why every year there is a large number of tourists who make travel to Italy from Argentina to know the lands of their ancestors.
