Janelle Monáe has released a new song “Float” with Seun Kuti & Egypt 80. The number comes as an R&B song, in the verses Monáe raps to the horns of the Afrobeat band and the driving trap hat rolls.

The song has been a regular on NBA Saturday Primetime since late last year during commercials for NBA games. The song will be used by ESPN until mid-March.

The single with the son Fela Kutis – the not undisputed activist and pioneer of Afrobeat – follows the 2018 album DIRTY COMPUTER. After his death in 1997 from the effects of AIDS, Seun Kuti took over the band management at Egypt 80.

DIRTY COMPUTER was accompanied by a sci-fi musical of the same name and was nominated for two Grammys. Monáe is also an actress. Last year she starred in the Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. In 2016, she starred in both Oscar-nominated Hidden Figures and Moonlight, the latter of which won the Best Picture trophy.
