Avicii: This was Tim Bergling’s last set before his death

A new video has been uploaded to the official Avicii YouTube channel. It shows a live recording of his track “Addicted To You” from a show in Ibiza on August 28, 2016.

What you didn’t know at the time: This performance would be his last. The EDM superstar retired from the live business and related world tours due to mental and physical issues. Tim Bergling, as Avicii’s real name was, died on April 20, 2018 at the age of 28, he committed suicide.

His album TIM was published posthumously. His family founded a mental health organization. In September 2022, she announced that they had sold around 75 producer of the recording and publishing rights to Avicii’s catalog to Swedish company Pophouse. They want to invest the money in their foundation. The deal also helps to continue bringing her son’s music to his fans in the best possible way, explained father Klas Bergling: “My wife and I are getting older and realizing that we don’t have the energy or skills to do it with the new streaming – and to keep up with digital developments, which is necessary for such a large, international artist like Tim.”

Avicii was considered one of the most successful EDM artists of recent years and had a significant influence on the genre. His biggest hits include “Hey Brother” and “Wake Me Up” feat. Aloe Blacc. The DJ’s breakthrough came in 2013 when he released his first album TRUE and composed the anthem for the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden together with former ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Ulvaeus is also one of the founders of Pophouse Entertainment, which bought the rights to his music from Bergling’s family.

In 2017, True Stories, a documentary about Avicii, was released. In a music documentary special in the printed Musikexpress we wrote about it:

“You don’t have to be a fan of EDM to watch with fascination and compassion in this positively and negatively impressive Avicii documentary: From 2011 to 2016, director Levan Tsikurishvili chronicled the meteoric rise of Swedish teenager Tim Bergling to become one of the most in-demand producers and DJs in the world world filmed. Madonna, Wyclef Jean, Chris Martin, Aloe Blacc, David Guetta and Co. rave about his talent, while Bergling is increasingly struggling with a stomach ulcer, mental problems, alcoholism, co-earners and the fact that he is no longer with all the jet set and performance pressure to find his way back to his true love, music. His retirement from the live business came too late: Bergling committed suicide in April 2018. Tragically, the film, released six months earlier, suggests how it could have come to this.”

Another documentary has been announced for 2023.
