The FDP is out. The twelve (ex) MPs are already packing. And what else does Parliament look like at the first session (March 16)? 21 new faces at the CDU. With the SPD 10 departures, but also eight new ones, with the Greens three gone, five new. The AfD grows by 4 people, the left has a new face and loses three others.
THE WINNERS
► Sebastian Scheel (47, left) lost his post as building senator at the end of 2021 because it went to the SPD in the new Giffey Senate. He also gave up a seat in Parliament. “After a good year’s breather” during which he spent a lot of time looking after his children, Scheel accepts his mandate this time and would like to take care of financial matters.
► Cornelia Seibeld (48, CDU) is about to take a career leap. Since their group will have the majority of MEPs in the future, the Union has the right to propose the presidential post. It is considered certain that the current Vice will come into play. A CDU woman had previously held the office: Hanna-Renate Laurien (1991-95).
► Martin Matz (57, SPD) makes a comeback. As State Secretary for Health, he headed the Corona crisis team for two years. After losing his job (went to the Greens) at the end of 2021, he took care of his parents in Bremen – both in their late 80s. Now he is back as a member of parliament, as he was in 2001-2006.
► Reinhard Naumann 62, SPD) was mayor of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, then set his sights on moving to the House of Representatives. Didn’t work out the first time, so he retired, doing volunteer work at the church. “Now comes a full job again,” says pensioner Naumann.
THE LOSERS
► Dennis Buchner (45, SPD), parliamentary speaker of a weakening SPD parliamentary group. Since his socialites no longer have the right to propose, the Weißenseer will lose his post. Then he no longer sits enthroned on the highest chair, but sits back down in the rows of the normal people.
► Benedict Lux (41, Greens), interior and environmental expert has to give up his seat in parliament for the time being. But there is hope for him because he is the third candidate when other MPs drop out. The probability is high: Because Bettina Jarasch and Daniel Wesener have Senate posts, Stefanie Remlinger is mayor in Mitte.
► Tom Schreiber (44, SPD), interior expert of the Berlin SPD from Treptow-Köpenick is out after 16 years. With many police and fire department officers, he had a stone in the board, often drove shifts. He also made headlines with his harsh criticism of the actions of the climate stickers.
