Who are the status holders in Westerbork? Where do they come from? How did they come to the Netherlands and what are their plans for the future? In the Stefanus Church in Westerbork, status holders from Syria, Eritrea and Kazakhstan tell their story on stage for the first time.
One of them is 34-year-old Sanaa Abbas Klisharo from Syria. She has to flee because of the war in the country. In 2015 she arrived in the Netherlands after a long journey. “It was a very hard journey. A journey from death to life.”
It takes Klisharo a total of fifteen days to arrive in the Netherlands. “So I can’t forget this journey. It was tough.”
A relative of Klisharo already lives in the Netherlands, which is why she decides to come here. “He told us that the Netherlands is a beautiful country and that the people here are very nice. That is very important to us, because we come from a war zone.” She now has Dutch nationality and lives with her husband and three children in Westerbork. “It is a beautiful and quiet village. The nature is beautiful. And the people here are very nice.”
