Robert Glatzel (29) could become a bargain next summer if Hamburger SV misses their return to the Bundesliga again. “Sport Bild” reports that the striker has an exit clause in his contract that applies in the event of non-promotion and is below the market value of 2.5 million euros.
Last summer, Glatzel extended his contract, which originally ran until 2024, by another year after rumors of a move to the Bundesliga and in particular to promoted FC Schalke 04. In the course of this, an existing exit clause was raised from 1.1 to 1.5 million euros, it is said. In addition, Glatzel’s annual salary is said to have increased from EUR 600,000 to EUR 1.3 million including bonuses.
At the time, it was said that Glatzel had decided to leave the “Rothosen” by that same agreement. It was later said that the native of Munich had turned down an existing offer from the Royal Blues. “It felt wrong to switch. And you earn a lot more than many others anyway,” emphasized the goalscorer a few weeks after his extension. He would have “definitely” given up money, but it was a heart decision, he said.
Duo led by Reis: Most valuable players in the 2nd Bundesliga
21 Jackson Irvine | FC St Pauli | Market value: €2 million
HSV was able to continue to rely on the services of his personified goal guarantee. In the current season, after 19 games in the 2nd Bundesliga, 13 goals (and one assist) have been recorded, which makes Glatzel the top scorer in the lower house. The attacker switched from Cardiff City to the Hanseatic city in 2021 for a fee of one million euros and has so far collected 46 points in 61 appearances.
HSV: There will probably also be an exit clause for Ludovit Reis
In addition to Glatzel, according to “Sport Bild”, there is also an exit clause in the contract of teammate Ludovit Reis (22), which also applies in the event of non-promotion. The fee for the Dutch U21 national player should not be below but above the market value of EUR 5 million – making Reis the most valuable player in the second division. The right footer came to HSV from the FC Barcelona reserve on a free transfer in 2021, where he extended until 2026 in November.
