Freiburg started the year badly and suffered a 6-0 defeat against VfL Wolfsburg. After that there was a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt and a 3-1 win against FC Augsburg. Most recently, the team of head coach Christian Streich had to accept a 1:5 defeat. This puts the SCF in sixth place in the Bundesliga with 34 points. In the cup, the Bundesliga club first beat Kaiserslautern 2-1, then the sports club won again 2-1 after extra time against second division St. Pauli.

After 19 matchdays, Sandhausen is in 15th place in the second division with 19 points. The Kurpfälzer are tied on points with the table sixteenth 1. FC Nürnberg and table seventeenth Jahn Regensburg and only have a better goal difference. After a win against Arminia Bielefeld (2-1) at the beginning of the year, there was a clear 4-0 defeat against Darmstadt last weekend. In the cup, SVS beat BSV SW Rehden 4-0 in the first round. In the second round, the Kurpfälzer then narrowly won 8:7 on penalties against Karlsruher SC.
